CRBA document organization for families
A Consular Report of Birth Abroad documents acquisition of U.S. citizenship at birth for a child born abroad when the legal requirements are met. It is distinct from the foreign birth certificate and a passport application.
What to gather before contacting us
This is an appointment preparation list. The responsible agency’s current instructions and your individual case determine the filing requirements.
- The embassy or consulate’s current instructions for your appointment
- The child’s birth record and parents’ identity records
- Relevant citizenship, relationship and physical-presence records you have been instructed to gather
- Any prior application, correspondence and required translations
How to organize this task
1. Read the consulate’s checklist
Requirements and appointment procedures depend on the post and your case. Use its current instructions rather than a generic city checklist.
2. Separate the records by purpose
Keep the child’s civil records, parents’ records and physical-presence evidence in labeled groups. Flag discrepancies for you or your legal adviser to resolve.
3. Confirm the appointment and related applications
A CRBA application and passport application are separate tasks. Confirm what your appointment includes and which documents the consulate requires.
Preparation scope and price
Asal can discuss clerical organization and translation coordination for records you provide. We do not determine transmission of citizenship, issue birth records or CRBAs, or guarantee a consular appointment or decision.
Request a written quote for this specific task before work begins. Government charges, professional services and translation work are separate unless expressly included. The office will confirm availability, required records and preparation timing; agency processing and outcomes are outside our control.
